About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex, the founder of Long Run Training. I’ve been a lifelong runner since 7th grade, exploring the trails around Folsom Lake in California. Over the years, I’ve experienced the highs of completing numerous marathons and ultra-marathons, including a spontaneous entry into the Rio de Janeiro marathon the day before the race!

I’ve also faced my fair share of injuries from undertraining, overtraining, and everything in between—ankles, knees, hamstrings, you name it. As I’ve entered my mid-30s, recovery has slowed down, prompting me to be more proactive with my care and more thoughtful about my training.

I realized that many of my problems stemmed from generic plans that lacked customization. That’s why I created Long Run Training—to provide runners of all skill levels with personalized tools and plans to ensure they are training within their limits and pushing just right, if they choose to.

How to Use This Site

Our training plans include generators for custom plans for beginner, intermediate, and advanced 10Ks, half-marathons, marathons, and ultras:

  • Beginner Plans: Focus on the mileage necessary to get you across the finish line.
  • Intermediate Plans: Mix up the training for a tougher regimen and a more satisfying result.
  • Advanced Plans: Incorporate paces from recent races or goal paces to guide advanced workouts.

The run calculators help you fine-tune your plans with paces, zone training, workout times, and more.
